Royal Orchid Sheraton Bangkok

I finally stayed back at this hotel again last August-2015.   This is my second stay at this hotel, being the first stay was more than 10 years ago (2003 I think).

From the decor and layout, you probably can tell that this hotel is quite old, probably as old as I am :)

As SPG Platinum, I have been upgrade to 1 bed room suite with a very nice view of the river.   The room was at 18f, which is a bit inconvenience as I need to change lift to go to club lounge.


These are the view taken from my room.   Sitting on the sofa facing to the window overlooking the river.   I like the view especally around sunset time where you can see the change of the scenery and the lightful boats nearby waiting for dinner cruise.

 Here are the pictures of the rooms.   The bath room has 2 doors, which can be accessed from bath room or from outside.  Hence if you have visitor that needs to use the bath room, you can still keep the privacy of your bed room.

The hotel has a resort type facilities with 2 swiming pools, one is overlooking the river.

The hotel provide a boat shuttle to Saphan Thaksin BTS which make the access to the hotel is less painful.   The boat runs every half hours on the hours and half of hours from the deck behind the hotel and depart 10 minutes later from Saphan Taksin.

In general, I feel the hotel is ok if you are in Bangkok and want to have a relaxing time with a nice river view.   Although the hotel is a bit dated and busy (many groups, as it is a huge hotel), I found it is comfortable enough and sometimes the hotel offers a very attarctive place.

But if you need a lot of traveling around Bangkok, perhaps this hotel may not be ideal for the stay

Pullman Thamrin Jakarta - Club Lounge

I stayed at Pullman Thamrin Jakarta again early August 2015.   The lounge has opened.    With the opening of the lounge, the Platinum member is no longer able to enjoy breakfast in the restaurant, but only in the lounge.

 I did not take the breakfast in the Club Lounge since my rate included breakfast.   However, I wen tot the lounge for a whil to check out.   They served mainly cool cut and I saw this "menu" on the table.   A short chat with the staff, he told me that they are still trying adjusting the breafkfast in the Club Lounge.   Hope it will get  better.

Fourpoint by Sheraton Kuta - Sneak Preview

As I was in Bali end of May-2015, I was wondering where the Fourpoint by Sheraton Kuta location is.   The hotel will be opened on 15-Jul-2015 as stated in the website.   I believe it will open on the date as I have seen the hotel is already completed and some "trials" stay are happening.

The hotel is inside the small alley.     You need to walk about 10 minutes in the small alley to get to the beach.   This does not mean the hotel's location is not good.   It is quite walking distance to beach,  Beach Walk (the shopping mall) also to Legian area, which there are many shops and restaurants and pubs at night.

I think the hotel they cannot sell on beach view, as there is no such view and hence they created a lagoon concepts which I think quite nice.  However, with the sister hotel, Sheraton Kuta, just 5 minutes away (same complex with Beach Walk),  I think it will really boilt down to the room rate, at least for me.

These pictures were taken from the side of the hotels.   You probably notice also these are the view from outside the room, i.e. corridors.

Here is the pictures inside the hotel which I managed to take.   I like the open concept and high ceilings of the lobby.   I guess the property is aware that they are lack of beach touch and come up with nice lagoon concept.   All the room will have lagoon view.

I have noticed that there was some activities in the hotel.   I saw housekeeping on the day team when I took the photos.   So I guess they were doing some trial stays.   So I guess the hotel will open tomorrow  (15-Jul-2015) for business as stated in the website.

It looks nice property althought it is inside the small alley and not very near to beach.   I think with the big sister just a stone away (and with beter location), the rate will definitly be the determining factors, at least for me.   I will defenitly like to try this hotel hopefully in the near future.
